Check your port first
CalDigit excludes Thunderbolt 3 Windows PCs from the TS5 Plus and Element 5, and USB4 hosts need PCIe tunneling for some features. Plain USB-C ports without Thunderbolt or USB4 fall back to limited functionality. Look for the lightning-bolt icon or “Thunderbolt 4/5” in your laptop’s spec sheet.
Docks vs hubs
Docks (TS4, TS5 Plus, OWC 11-Port) include Ethernet, card readers and audio. Hubs (Element, Element 5) are smaller and mostly multiply Thunderbolt and USB ports. Choose a hub if your desk already handles networking and audio.

No. The connection runs at the slower side’s speed. Buy Thunderbolt 5 for a Thunderbolt 5 laptop or for the extra charging and networking.
