Which one should you get?

A 16-inch laptop or the most ports: the Anker Prime

It lists up to 140W charging, faster Ethernet, card readers and 10Gb/s USB-C ports.

Three DisplayPort monitors, or mixing HDMI and DP freely: the Plugable

Every output takes either HDMI or DisplayPort, and its two DisplayLink outputs are rated 4K 60Hz.

Limits of this comparison

  • Both rely on DisplayLink for the extra screens: protected (HDCP) video will not play on DisplayLink displays, and Plugable notes no Retina scaling on them. Fine for office work, not for gaming or video editing.
  • Each maker’s own page contradicts itself on one figure (Anker HDMI resolution, Plugable charging wattage). Plan on the lower number.
  • No hands-on testing. Prices and availability are not tracked.
