Two video connectors are not enough information to confirm your intended setup.
Define what “two monitors” means to you
Write down whether you want two different desktops or the same picture on both screens. Record the resolution and refresh rate of each monitor, and whether you want to keep the laptop screen active. Our suggested comparison starts with that written setup, so a vague “dual display” headline cannot substitute for an answer.
Check the laptop’s own display support
Apple says MacBook Air display support depends on the model and on display resolution and refresh rate. Its guidance also says that a supported hub or daisy chain does not increase the maximum number of displays the Mac supports. Do not transfer a compatibility claim from one MacBook Air generation to another.
For a Windows setup, Microsoft’s USB-C guidance asks users to check the required display mode on the computer, display and cable. Our practical next step is to match the laptop’s technical specification with the dock’s documented display table, rather than infer support from the connector shape.
Ask whether software is involved
DisplayLink-based products have their own software path. Synaptics publishes DisplayLink drivers for Windows and notes that the product manufacturer may supply different software. Plugable distinguishes its DisplayLink products from Thunderbolt and non-DisplayLink USB-C docks, which do not need those DisplayLink drivers.
If you use a managed work laptop, ask your IT team about the exact required software before choosing a dock. We recommend keeping “software permitted” as a separate comparison field. A documented hardware match and permission to install software are different checks.
